Scientists worry Yellowstone could blow due to many recent earthquakes!
by Witness 007 infoxnews reports 250 earthquakes hit the yellowstone park area in recent days.
this area has been called a "super volcano" and very "high risk.
" one eruption 2 million years ago was a vei 8 which caused global cooling and devastation.

I am quite sure that a few Witnesses have seized upon these reports and are emailing everyone in their address book. Remember back in 2006 when tensions between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon were hightened? Yes, you guessed it. Many JWs were emailing each other about how that was going to escalate into the Great Tribulation. The Watchtower thrives on bad news or even the possibility of bad news.

I Met a Member of the Generation that will not Pass Away

Yes, and there are still millions of people alive around the world who were born right before 1925. True, they were infants when Rutherford was wheeling and dealing his message, but the Watchtower needs all of the loopholes it can get. Lord knows they use them!

Did you know? Jah and Jesus are present invisibly at the meetings.
by Trevor Scott inlooking for thoughts on this statement.
given that wt doctrine holds that jah is not omnipresent, and jesus is of course just a lowly angel who doesn't even have "holy spirit" at his disposal let alone omnipresence, how can it be said they are "present invisibly" at the meetings?.
since they are not omnipresent and can't be at every meeting, how can it be said that by not attending meetings jws are "snubbing them"?.

I thought God was omnipresent.
Common sense would establish that an ominipotent God would be. But, this would not fit with Watchtower teachings. If God were omnipresent, then Christians would not have to be guided through Watchtower articles and assembly talks. The Governing Body are God-brokers for the rank and file. If one is in unity with an omnipresent God, then they would not need the yoke of Brooklyn-based salvation merchants.

Feburary 15, 2009 Watchtower Study Edition
by bronzefist inhttp://www.sendspace.com/file/2bs4od.
once again a heavy on jesus issue, because the memorial is approaching.
the "fds" also want blondie to calm down because she's always bringing up the lack of jesus being mentioned in the majority of the issues.. the picture of the 125th gilead graduation on page 23 caught my eye thanks to jwd.

The picture of the 125th Gilead Graduation on page 23 caught my eye thanks to JWD. I was baptized over 20 years ago and this is the first time I noticed all the men are ABOVE the women.
They really take the "Missionary Position" literally, don't they?
Pages 19-21 asks Should You Insist On Your Personal Preferences? This is a really funny article.
Maybe the GB should read this article. Perhaps their ban on beards (in the U.S.) is insisting upon their own preferences?
As is the last article Christian Funerals Dignified, Modest, and Pleasing to God.
We all know that a Christian funeral must serve as an infomercial for the organization to be dignified. They may as well put a stack of "What Do Jehovah's Witnesses Believe" tracts on top of the casket for the non-Witnesses who are present.

JW tells me, "1981 Watchtower article predicted today's economic problems."
by WingCommander inso, i was at the local mall today and ran into a jw friend that i had grown up with and attended school with.
hadn't seen him in 6 months or so.
he didn't see me, so i had to approach him.

Any Christian authors who are prolific end-times commentators can make similar claims. As one looks at human history; it is assured that there will be cycles of economic distess, plagues, famines, and wars. All one has to do is claim that at some future time, a major ________________ will happen. Just fill in the blank. At some point, it will most likely come true.
Prior to 9/11, there were radical clerics proclaiming that the "Great Satan" U.S. would be humiliated and that servants of Allah would strike a blow at the empire. Were they prophets? No, they were speaking in generalities in predicting something with high probability.

Do these people not think that sitting for 32 hours of mind-numbing District Convention talks per year is enough? I would be irritated by this site even if I was a loyal Witness. While I was a Witness, friends would try to give me 10 page printouts of experiences emailed to them from some missionary in Kenya or Tanzania. My reaction was always: WTF? More reading material? No thanks.

Blondie's Comments You Will Not Hear at the 12-28-08 WT Study (HONOR)
by blondie inshowing deep respect.. .
so what judge, male or female, gave god's answer to difficult questions with god's spirit?.
congregation elders and traveling overseers?

Blondie, you once again point out the fact that Old Testament passages and circumstances are appealed to in this article. This is important. The Watchtower leadership is very crafty and persuasive in drawing parallels between itself (a de facto mediator to Jehovah's Witnesses) and Moses who was mediator to his people.
This has been standard operating procedure for the writing department for much of the organization's history. We all know that the Governing Body are for all intents and purposes, a modern day priestly class who serve as brokers for people's relationship with God. The only way that they can do this in a convincing way is to equate the organizational administration with Moses. An analogy that falls flat on it's face when given a little bit of critical thinking. No wonder the Watchtower studies are so steril and pre-scripted these days.
Jehovah's Witnesses dutifully take in and commit to memory these study articles in the same way that a Catholic takes communion. For rank and file Jehovah's Witnesses to reject this "spiritual food" is akin to a member of the annointed rejecting the bread and the wine.

Jeremy c I took it a step further. Not only did I take off the badge...I also went and changed into street clothes and then went out to eat!!!
Bah! What flagrant disregard for theocratic direction. The Society used to make dramas about people like you!

I would take off my convention badge at restaurants after the District Convention. Eating dinner while wearing a name badge just felt so . . . . . Mormonish.
